HOLIDAY QUADRILLE WITH HEATHER LAMB

On December 16th, pony clubbers Ruby, Danny, Kendall and Nicole went to watch veteran pony clubber/instructor Heather Lamb as she participated in a holiday-themed Quadrille.  Heather rode her horse named Crystal and great fun was had by all.  For those who do not know, a quadrille is  a choreographed dressage ride commonly performed to music.   It is sometimes compared to equestrian ballet or a drill team.

HORSEMASTERS PASS FIRST CERTIFICATION TEST

On December 17, GiGi and Jennifer, the two first horsemasters from Nellie Gail's own South OC Pony Club, became D1s.  Both were very pleased they passed the test and can't wait to rate up again.

SANTA FE HUNT CLINIC ORGANIZED BY HORSEMASTER DEBRA HUETT OF PORTUGUESE BEND PONY CLUB (OCTOBER 2017)

GiGi and Jennifer, the two first horsemasters from Nellie Gail's own South OC Pony Club, had the time of their lives trailering their horses (Mac and Charlotte)  on Sunday to Garner Ranch, one of Southern California’s largest working cattle ranches located in spectacular Garner Valley near Idyllwild, where they participated in a 2.5 hour free riding clinic with the Santa Fe Hunt Club.  GiGi did a fabulous job maneuvering the truck and trailer on freeways and winding roads.  The horses did a good job of loading and unloading.   In total there were about 60 horses and riders who participated in 4 different fields, practicing their skill sets, riding in the open, going up and down embankments, over logs, through high grasses, bushes, and trees and alongside cattle.  A great time was had by all at this historic ranch which was once used to film the opening credits of the ever-popular show, Bonanza.  We are very thankful that Debra organized such a wonderful clinic.  Approximately 4 pony clubs attended.   The Santa Fe Hunt Club is an amazing group and we really encourage you to check them out.

RIDING WITH THE HOUNDS (AUGUST 2017)

Ruby and Danny from Nellie Gail's own South OC Pony Club had the time of their lives in August riding with the hounds in Temecula, CA.  The pony club kids were graciously hosted at KingsWay Farm by Master Terry Paine, a joint-Master of the Santa Fe Hunt.  Established in 1969, the Santa Fe Hunt is a MFHA recognized Hunt Club in Southern California.

Our pony club kids received private instruction on riding in the open with Chloe Smyth (Two-Star Competitor, U-25 USEF Team), who also grew up riding in Pony Club and is the Kennel man and First Professional whip to the Santa Fe Hunt.   Then, the next morning, our pony club kids had occasion to ride with approximately 28 of the hounds in a practice exercise.  Joint-Master Paine, First Professional Whip Chloe Smith and other members of the Santa Fe Hunt, including the club's president, rode with our pony clubbers and introduced them to this time-honored sport.

Foxhunting dates back hundreds of years.  Mounted riders chase wild game (such as foxes or coyotes) with a pack of hounds across the countryside.  Riders navigate through open terrain, across creeks and streams, over logs and other natural obstacles, and even through woods and thickets.  United States Pony Clubs, Inc. was actually founded in 1954 by a group of foxhunters.  As stated on the United States Pony Clubs, Inc. website, "A happy child on a happy pony (or horse) is the goal of Pony Club, and the hunt field is a great place to find many of these pairs!"

HORSE MASTERS 2017

South OC Pony Club is happy to announce we are starting horse masters as part of our pony club program effective September 1, 2017.  It is never too late to learn to ride and to become more savvy in horse management.  So if you are over the age of 25, consider joining horse masters.  Welcome GiGi Bourke and Jennifer Tullis as our first two horsemaster members!

CAMP 2017

Several of our South OC Pony Club members just got back from Camino Real Pony Club Camp at the Meadows at Moorpark  (2017).  Our members had the chance to ride dressage, jumping, and cross country.  They also got to play games on horses, swim, do arts and crafts, learn horse management, and make new friends.  A great time was had by all.
